Connections of Montjeu have yet to decide on the colt`s future following his defeat in the Dubai Champion Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.
The John Hammond-trained four-year-old, who runs in the colours of Michael Tabor, won the French and Irish Derbys and Prix de l`Arc de
Triomphe last season and has proved himself just as good this year with an impressive victory in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes in July.
However, he finished a disappointing fourth behind Sinndar when attempting to win his second Arc at the beginning of the month and suffered another reverse when beaten a neck by Kalanisi at Newmarket.
Immediately after this latest defeat Hammond seemed resigned to retiring Montjeu to stud.
But a spokeswoman for the Chantilly trainer this morning said: 'Montjeu is fine but no decision has been made yet whether or not he has been retired. John has to speak to all the owners before anything is decided.'
